Young musicians concerto competition

Applications for 2026 have now closed. Applications for 2027 will be available in the spring of 2027


Entry Criteria 2027

  1. The competition is open to piano, strings, woodwind and brass players resident or studying in the UK or in one of the twin towns of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
  2. Applicants should have reached the equivalent of Grade 8 standard or higher. All applications must be accompanied by a recommendation from a teacher or professional musician.
  3. Applicants must be aged 18 years or under on 31 August 2028.
  4. Applicants must provide a 10 minute performance on video with their application form

Prizes

First prize £1,000 plus a concerto performance with WMSO

Second prize £250

Award Aubrey Thonger Silver Cup for promising talent

Application

  1. Application with video submission by Friday 21 May 2027
  2. Applicants will be informed if they have been selected to play in the final by 31 July 2027
  3. The Finals schedule will be provided 10 September 2027
  4. Competition final Sunday 10 October 2027 at St Piran's Centre, Maidenhead SL6 7LZ
