Our season opens with celestial flourish. Nielsen's Helios Overture depicts the sun rising over the Aegean Sea, tracing its golden course through the sky and sinking into the sea again at the end of its day's journey. This forms a complementary work to Holst's mighty Planets Suite in which the Taplow Youth Choir forms the female chorus. Shostakovich provides us with a sparkling interlude, and the singers are contributing some choral items too.
