Robert, mid rehearsal on concert day
|
At the age of 15, Robert Roscoe
became a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal Manchester College of Music,
where he later took a full-time Diploma on the clarinet. He then
went on to Trent Park (now part of Middlesex University) to take a Postgraduate
Certificate of Education. After completing his education, Robert
became one of the wind tutors for Berkshire, rising to the position of
Head of Woodwind Tuition for the County. Following the 'privatisation'
of instrumental tuition in Berkshire, he has taken on a senior management
role in the Young Musicians Trust, successor to the County's Music Centre,
while continuing in his role as Head of Woodwind Tuition. Back in
1975, he had taken a sabbatical in order to study conducting at Trinity
College, London. Since then he has been involved variously as founder,
musical director, mentor and conductor of many music societies and groups
in the County. He is particularly known for his work with young people
and has conducted both the Reading Youth Orchestra and the Berkshire Wind
Band, taking both to National Festivals in the Royal Festival Hall and
Royal Albert Hall. He is conductor of the newly formed Berkshire
Youth Orchestra, and, of course, he has been musical director of the Windsor
and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra for much of its 35 year history. |
