Background of Garfield Jackson - Viola

Garfield Jackson was born in London and studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal Academy of Music.  He is a founder member of the Endellion String Quartet, who are now in their 19th year.  The quartet has toured worldwide, given concerts throughout the U.K. and broadcast extensively for the B.B.C.  Their recordings cover a wide range of repertoire for several companies including EMI.  Since 1992 they have been Quartet in residence at Cambridge University.

As a soloist, Garfield has appeared in the Queen Elizabeth, Barbican and Wigmore Halls and on the BBC.  As a chamber musician he is much in demand, and has performed with many artists, including members of the Amadeus Quartet, Steven Isserlis and Andras Schiff, as well as being a regular guest with the Nash Ensemble.  He has recorded the Rebecca Clarke viola and piano sonata with Martin Roscoe for ASV records.

The Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra are very lucky to have the opportunity to play Walton's Viola Concerto with Garfield Jackson.  The performance of this wonderful work will be within the Summer Concert of 1999, on 3rd July.  For further details of that concert, please refer to the concert page.
