On Saturday 4th December 2004 Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra will welcome the celebrated local violinist Alexandra Wood to perform Tchaikowsky's Violin Concerto at Eton College School Hall.
"A talent to watch" (The Strad), Alexandra, has won major prizes at international violin competitions including the Wieniawski, Tibor Varga and Yampolsky. She has already given numerous recitals at the Cheltenham, Bath and Brighton International Festivals and also in London at the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall. She has also performed concertos with orchestras such as the City of London Sinfonia and the Orchestra of St Johns Smith Square. Alexandra has won many prestigious awards including the Worshipful Company of Musicians Medal, the Maisie Lewis Award, the Wingate Scholarship and Junior Fellowships at the Royal College of Music.
She was selected for the Tillett Trust Young Artists Platform and Countess of Munster Recital Scheme in 2000. A highlight in 2003 was her debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra as well as several recitals in London's top concert halls. She has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, Polsat and Radio Suisse Romande.
As well as the Tchaikowsky Violin Concerto WMSO's December concert will also include the 2nd Symphony by Sibelius and the Dance Rhapsody by Frank Bridge.
