| Who are we?
The WMSO is a registered charity, which provides an opportunity for local musicians to develop their skills and explore great orchestral masterpieces. Vacancies occasionally occur, particularly in the string sections. If you are interested in joining us, please email our Chairman or call 0118 926 8598. |

| Concerts
The WMSO brings the symphonic orchestral repertoire to concert-goers in Windsor and Maidenhead (and further afield), playing at least three concerts a year at local venues. |
|
| History
The Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1972 as a group of local musicians ready to support the many amateur productions of light opera and musicals, but also to give concerts in its own right. It was then called the Maidenhead Concert Orchestra. When Robert Roscoe took over in 1975 the orchestra grew in status and considerably widened its repertoire which now includes large scale works ranging from the classical to the contemporary. |
|
| European Events
The WMSO is an active participant in European twinning activities, frequently combining with choirs and orchestras from the Royal Borough's six twin towns. The last such event was on 8th May 1999, when we put on a concert with the "Kortrijks Vocaal Ensemble" in Eton College Chapel |
|
| Youth Music
The WMSO actively encourages young soloists in the early stages of their careers, notably by organising the annual Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Young Musician's Competition. |
|
| Funding
The activities of the WMSO are funded by members' and patrons' subscriptions, by self-help activities, and Business Friends support. Grants are gratefully received from the Prince Philip Trust. We are also affiliated to the National Federation of Music Societies. |
